The tensions between Shia and Sunni was there long before. It was the basis of the Iran-Iraq war in the 80s. It is like the Protestants and the Catholics in Northern Ireland -- they just hate each other.

Those dumb asses have been killing each other for hundreds of years. Saddam was a dictator because he had to be just to keep the peace between these two groups. Once Saddam was gone, "when the cat's away, the mouse will play (or kill each other)". Saddam realized that he had to torture and kill a few of these idiots just to get them to shut up and calm down. Since we were trying to kill Al-queda, the Sunnis and Shiites were left to kill each other. I don't believe we are to blame for more terrorists. I believe our troops have Al-queda and the terrorists under control. The increased violence is between the Sunnis and the Shiites. We just happen to be in the way of them killing each other. If it wasn't for our caring compassion and not wanting people to be killed, I'd say let the dumb *** Sunnis and Shiites fight it out (like the Hatfields and the McCoys) until either one side wins or they realize that there is no winning. If they would only put as much effort working (flipping burgers and salting the fries), they'd be able to rent a nice place, get some decent furniture, get a plasma screen TV and waste their time away being peaceful watching Deal or No Deal like the rest of us.

The differences are eons old and date back well before America was a twinkle in the eye of some genocidical conquistador - their differences are obscure to most westrn minds but of deep and great importance to them. As for people seeking to villify their culutre or the people might be worth dusting off your primary history books to reveal that the area of Iraq was a civilisation while Britain was still picking the first wave of black death spots and had huge influence on cultures throughout the world - agrarian, economic, mathematics, art, sculpture, writing and many more things some people on here struggle to find on their Sky remote controls. As for the American invasion removed the glue that enabled them to hold together (just) and for another comparison consider former Yugoslavia another federal state held together by a dictator (Tito) and following his death so followed civil war.

When Iraqis murder other Iraqis they cannot logically blame Americans, Israel, or even Santa Claus. it's their own hatred for each other that drives them to commit such murders and after reading the koran I have learned that islam teaches them to be violent and those committing the murders in Iraq are following the example muhammad set for them. And under Saddam there was violence in Iraq, but CNN chose not to report it because Saddam told them he would kick them out if they told the truth about what they saw. Anybody remember all the mass graves we found that were filled during Saddam's terroristic reign ?

After the fall of any regime, there is a struggle for power. It's nothing new and will probably settle down in a few years time. Then, hopefully, it will all have been worthwhile.
Look at the Balkans, Africa etc.

Sunni and shi ite..? wasnt that a sixties singin duo?

as for your additonal info....i reckon its got naff all to do with the americans as they wouldve found some other reason to sling curds (?) at each other sooner or later.

If they want to remain backward leave em be... you certainly cant refer to them as being a civilisation...they're far from civilised. just leave em alone... i think the yanks are goin about things the wrong way their futile attempts at tryin to stop them butchering each other and learnin them its disgustin to chuck their garbage onto the streets is just a sneaky way of tryin to syphon their oil into jerry cans and scarper back to uncle sam...

forget it...im sure you'll get to pick sides when the sleepin armies turn out for civil war.....

Just another two groups of people with two different agenda with one trying to gain victory over the other. The struggle is ages old.
