Sorry, but I just had to laugh at that question. Anyway, you cannot compare the two in any way. "Duck" means watchout, get down or heads up, which means someone is looking out for you. Whereas "chicken" means somebody is a coward, or afraid of something, Which is insulting.

Duck is another word for putting your head down, hence helping you. Where I live duck is considered to be a term of endearment and means something sweet. Chicken is associated with cowardice hence is an insult.

If you live near Stoke, you might hear something like this: 'Yes, duck, can I help you duck, Ok duck, nice to see you duck, gotta go duck, see you then duck'
But never have I been called 'chicken' unless in jesty-insult. Usually accompanied by the well-known chicken stance and cluck.

Yelling chicken is not an insult. Calling someone a chicken is.

Duck is a synonym. It could either mean 'duck' = the bird or 'duck' = duck down to avoid hitting something/something hitting you. Chicken usually means you're a wuss, since chickens are sometimes skiddish.
