I don't use it because I'm not in the business of upsetting people.

I am actually tired of that question too. I think that white people are upset probably because they cannot use it in the open. It makes no sense why they would feel so uneasy whenever the hear the word used unless it is past guilt caused by seeing the hatred of the word when they were growing up. We all know that chances are when they are around a group of their own kind they probably say ****** all the time. Just like black people would say cracker and everyone says f@g.
I would say that they would want to use it to hurt someone indefinitely. What hurts more from a white person, "Go to hell!" or
"Go to hell, ******!" I think the latter. Any words that can hurt anyone when strong emotions are there can be said.

I think the question has to do with the double standard that seems to be occurring where the N word is concerned. There are some very famous black comedians who use the N word all the time but have not gotten any kind of public reprimand in the media. Where as a white comedian decides to say it and all heck breaks loose. Does this not seem unfair to you or just plain ludicrous. Racism CAN come from ones own race, yet some how if a person is the same race as the race they are showing prejudice towards, they are pardoned. I hope this puts the above question into a better context, so that you can maybe understand why people are asking it so much right now.

I think some of the people who ask this question are just straight up racist and are dying to use the N word. But probably most are kids who aren't black but listen to hip-hop and want to be a part of hip-hop culture, and most rap artists and comedians like Dave Chappelle use the word pretty liberally. So they genuinely don't get why the word is off limits to them since they've embraced everything else and the entertainers they admire most use it so casually. They want to be "down" so bad and have come to think that using that word is part of getting there. It really has gotten so that it's hard to sing along with a song or repeat a joke without having to skip a lot of words. But for the record, they just can't say it! Period. I'm Puerto Rican and I would never use that word, just as I don't go around calling myself something considered derogatory. And my best friend is black and she doesn't use that word either. As for why you keep seeing that question pop up in here, it's probably because they feel safer asking it online, rather than in real life where they might catch a beating for asking.

You said it. If I see this question one more time, I'm going to start a support group for non-blacks who want someone to help them deal with the terrible unfairness of not being able to use a slur against black people.
Personally, I think most people who ask this question are just trying to use it to justify their own racial biases by suggesting that there's something unfair about the way black people deal with the use of the N word -- as if that were the ONLY word that members of a group use among themselves but reject when used by members of other groups. EVERY group has such words. Personally, I don't use the word, my kids don't use it and I don't think anyone should. It's a slur that should fall out of use.
But it doesn't follow that its use by blacks is unfair to non-blacks. It's also not invariably racist when someone non-black uses it.
Also, every generation has its own take on things. I was once in a record store and I heard two young white teens using it do talk about some musician clearly in imitation of the way they've heard black people use it. I was surprised, but not shocked or offended because they weren't using it in a hateful way. But I could easily see an older person who grew up in segregation being really offended.

I am so tired of it, no one should be called that not a black person to another black person or a white person to a black person or anyone, it's a stupid mean hatefull word to show that black's are beneath white's and it's not true we are all people, and it doesn't matter what are skin looks like, the european's came up with that whites are the best a long time ago, and now we know that, that's not true, so just don't call anyone mean names, and then we wouldn't have that problem, simple as that.

Thanks for asking this, it is something that I wonder about myself. I do not use the N-Word, do not allow it used in my presence or my home, but yet because it is on a rap video or cd I am told that black people use the word all the time on each other. In fact, none of my friends or family use the word. So where is this coming from. What is the basis of saying black people use this on each other all the time and for the individual who say this (black use it on each other all the time), I would truely like to know how many black people they really do know.

i think black people get upset about whites using the word because its away for the African American community to exercise control
on a country they have very little control over. i am not saying its okay to say this word. i am saying their needs to be more blacks in leadership positions, as well as, other cultures. America isn't just made up of whites.

Since blacks use it all the time, I don't know what the big deal is. I am a 47 year old white man. I believe blacks have most white people feeling guilty for what went on in this country 200 and 400 years ago, that whites are soft about it. I had nothing to do with holding any race of people down. And I sure hope my great grand children do not have to pay for my sins that they had nothing to do with. There are no blacks alive in this country who were slaves.

i think to too many people today that word should only mean its definition of an ignorant person. if pride or sensitivity to ones past is the only cause of friction with this word (and that is completely respectable) then why are so many black-americans reluctant to fight other ideas with undertones of slavery-not just a word. isnt it ignorant of black-americans who are sensitive to the word at times to have to listen to those who should know better use it so plainly and lightly. i.e. hip hop music's common use...the percentage of white americans who listen and pay the royalties for the music.

What is the rationale for calling each other nlgger and then calling for a boycott against white store owners? Are these people any better than the KKK?
Maybe calling each other nlgger is a way to remind themselves that they need to hate whitey.
Thank God there are still rational people, but they are getting harder and harder to find,
