7-8 million in the city and 17 million in the metropolitan area.
I think there's enough of a fan base. Besides, the two teams started in different leagues.

One is from Long Island and the other is from NYC. Just like the Mets and Yankees in Baseball and the Rangers and Islanders in Hockey

It's a big city??? I grew up in upstate NY near Albany and have gone back and forth between the Giants and Jets at times. Then I gave up and decided I like the Patriots.

New York state actually has THREE teams to it's credit....there's Buffalo, too, in addition to the Jets and the Giants.

because it is the largest city in the US with some 10 million people and along with the surrounding tristate area is and does easily support ALL of our many professional sports teams.
