Pretty much all of the Western idea of Santa comes from the poem "The Night Before Christmas". It is a common misconception that Coca-Cola changed the colour of his clothing, but their Christmas advertising featuring Santa is largely responsible for spreading the image portrayed in the poem.

Santa Claus is traditionally represented in a red cloak with white fur trimmings, a reference to St Nicholas, who reputably performed his charitable acts dressed in his red bishop's robes.Conventionally, Santa Claus is portrayed as a kindly, round-bellied, merry, bespectacled white man in a red coat trimmed with white fur (perhaps remotely derived from the episcopal vestments of the original Bishop Nicholas), with a long white beard and green or white gloves.

They sensed his potential as toy giving-killing machine, gave him a skin-tight black outfit, a katana sword and other weapons and specialized training.

He became...(wait for it...)

NINJA CLAUS
