Norms are expectations about appropriate conduct which serve as common guidelines for social action....example eating, sleeping, walking and talking are all norms in our everyday life

A norm is the center of a statistical curve, generally a bell-shaped curve where the majority of people or things fall in the center, and there are fewer and fewer as you go to the extremes. You certainly have seen the curve to describe such statistically complex concepts as intelligence -- the infamous IQ.

Norms are of limited usefulness in determining how you should live your own life. They may tell you something about other people's reactions to your personal way, but nothing about what it is or should be. It should be who you really are, personally, by your own choices.

Norms are behaviours which are percieved as approved by other people, they are human standards which are expected from a normal human being. Any deviation may lead to social sanctioning, possibly by law.
