is it better to put resources into developing ones own scripts and productions or was film school a useful vehicle for you?

(....i am leaning towards building community and creating our own path around our good scripts...... my scripts)

(the result i am looking for, for me and my community is to be writing producing main stream feature films by December 2008.)

Ohhh... I'm finishing film school in 4 days (!!), so I have A LOT to say about this... but it's almost 5AM so I'll try to be short :-)

There are many things I disliked about it, and still, most working filmmakers don't have a degree film. I'd say most screenwriters have an academic degree, though.
One of the good things about my film school was having a living network of active filmmakers around you, so you network a lot among students.
So no, it's not neccesary and it costs $40-120k, but you get equipment, a BA, and learn other things aside.

I'm in film school now but I'm a freshman and still wondering if it that useful. Goes by individual preferance. Spielburg didn't.
