No more or less than American youth. The reason is the availability of so much stuff.

The opposite of materialism is unselfishness and compassionate charity. Tell me which country youths have most of this quality you are seeking. Singapore is somewhere along the range. Judging by measurable indicators I don't think we are that materialistic. eg
no teenage prostution (to fund lavish lifestyles), lack of white collared crooks (to get rich any way possible), lack of brand awareness (I haven't met a girl who knows what is the latest LV bags). The economy have its impact. Dull economy means people has less time or money to shop for branded goods if that is what you mean by being materialistic.

That is too general a question to answer with a yes or no, because there are "exceptions to every rule".

There are a lot of things that contribute to materialism, and it is usually a combination of factors rather than a single one.

practically most of them are. it depends on individual actually. i have known sum ppl are not like that.. For me. i do 'purposive' shopping. i shop for the things i need~ =D
