Its incredible that, in a time when human rights are part of the excuse for the actions of the United States, people are ignoring independant watchdogs that have made human rights their living.

Wow, where have you been? American and Castro relations is old news. And there is no anti-Castro propaganda anymore. I'm not sure if he's as big of a bad-ss as he was when he forcefully went into office under false intentions. But Cubans are still risking their lives to come to America.
I also remember he allowed Pope John Paul to come into Cuba and even spoke to him. I also think he's allowed a few American television hosts to do a few shows from Cuba to show it's not terrible over there.
So come on get out of the cave you have been living in and join the people above ground.

Back in the late 50's when I was a young lad I listened to short wave radio a lot and I would tune in to radio Havana, and get one side of the story and then to radio America and get the other side of the conversation, some where in the middle was the truth. In answer to your question no, I do not believe everything the government or the media tells me or choose not to tell me.

The Citizens of the USA are not very bright in general and on the whole. Some of us take our news information from a broad source and can then properly evaluate what is happening in the world. Generally, Americans take their reports from partisan, biased opinion and the lack of credible news sources in America has a lot to answer for.

I think most of them believe it. If it's on Fox News, it's consumed as fact.
America has rejected the Geneva convention, adopted systematic torture, carries out human rights abuses, denies its kidnapped prisoners any legal process, runs secret prison camps and uses banned chemical weapons on civilians. Even China has spoken out against the US abuse.
America can't really comment on Castro.

To be honest, not much is said about cuba at all. The US government is still upset about the cuban missile crisis back in the 60's. Soon, it won't matter he'll be dead of old age anyways.
