I've often wondered why people are so mean spirited towards gay people? Is it because they need a scapegoat to hate and blame everything on??? I'm not gay, and don't have any close friends or relatives who claim to be, but I don't hate gay or lesbian people. At the worst I'd expect that people who didn't agree with the gay lifestyle would be indifferent or just ignore gay or lesbian people. As for the fear that "someone might be propositioned by someone gay", well who cares. You could just say "no thanks" or "not interested" and leave it at that (the same as with unwanted advances from the opposite sex). I've seen some really horrible things in the news like protesters showing up outside a funeral of a gay man with signs saying "He was burning in Hell". What is going on here?????

It's because people- for generations and generations have been raised to be scared of it. They've been conditioned to hate people that don't fit into their comfort zone of what they're familiar with. It was only in the 70's I believe that a psychiactric association of America overturned the belief that Homosexuality was a psychological disorder. But the community is portrayed so badly in the media, it's incredible. Every bad thing possible- crime related activity is just... amplified for everything to hear. But they don't talk about good things. It's like whenever I had a breakup- my parents would always say something like "If you weren't Gay, that wouldn'tve happened..." that's total bullsh*t because they broke up several times with other people before they found each other and were married and my dad's a pastor too. Go figure. X^/
People don't realize how much the LGBTQ community has contributed to the world. Mostly because those people were blacklisted after coming out. For instance, the man that helped break the code of the enigma during WWII was gay. He developed an incredible decyphering computer- but was not credited because of his sexual preference. What I'm saying, is that when people are unsure of who they're dealing with- they'll go crazy until things are back where they want them to be.
It's not about Gays getting upset and trying to change the world or anything, it's more about educating and being treated with respect, like any other human deserves. We are comfortable with who we are. We know where we're going when we die- it doesn't matter what other people think.

Being prejudiced towards any group is just ignorance, plain and simple.
But sometimes I think that pointing this out to the bigots (who are certainly not all, or even most, straight people) merely makes them think that WE'RE intolerant, or attacking them in some way, which is even more ridiculous. Have you ever seen a group of gay people picketing or protesting against someone PURELY because they were straight? Doesn't happen, Skippy.

They are different. Most people fear what they do not understand or are not familiar with. For some reason they think that all gays are on the prowl. I am not interested but I am not rude to them. Burning in Hell? I wonder what gives anyone the right to judge like that. They are misquoting an old bible passage in condemning Homosexuals. If they quote the Bible they must quote the whole thing. Just think, in Biblical times, if your son talked back to you, you should take him to the city gates and stone him to death. Anyone ever done that?

Everyone isn't hostile to gay people. There are isolated instances just like there are with groups picking on black people or muslim's. I was out of town once in a part of Dayton (I am white) and I was in a grocery store where all black people worked. They treated me very rudely. This was a long time ago. Now I could have taken that incident to heart and blamed every black person for their bad behavior but I realize that sometimes you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Don't take it out on everyone because of one incident.

well i think the reason is because of comments like jay m, above
what people like him fail to understand is that we contribute just as much to our society. i was in the military, now retired. i pay the same taxes. I'm a volunteer firefighter/EMT and do all this with \out judging anyone on their sexual preference. there are people that do things i don't like, be it racist or what ever. that's their choice not mine. we as a gay community don't have an agenda. we are not trying to take over the world. we just want what everybody else wants. to be able to fall in love get married have our family and friends and be happy. if that's an agenda then our fore fathers started it with the declaration of Independence

Fear, people choose to hate, rather than learn. The misinterpretation of the Bible contributes also. The US has come a long way since the 60's and has a lot further to go.
Thanks for caring, Merry Christmas

Why are gay people so upset that some people are so hostile. If you are sure that your lifestyle is right and you're happy doing it then stop trying to change the world.
Strangely enough if you are discontent that some in the world may see things differently then is it not so difficult to expect them to hold the same to be true?
