Is there any way to do this? Someone mentioned an external DVD writer - how does this work, do you just connect via USB? Any suggestions on a good one (not too expensive)?

Get this: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2321545&CatId=483 and plug it in to your laptop and start burning DVD's. I have one and it does a great job and it is cheaper than going and getting an internal dvd burner for a laptop...those are expensive.

Two options come to mind:

1. You can upgrade your internal drive to a DVD burner. Look for a burner that has "Slim" in the title. They are laptop-sized burners and run about $50. Make sure you are comfortable removing your old drive (usually only a matter of a couple of screws).

2. If you don't want to alter your machine, yes, you can buy an external burner. All you need is a power source (i.e. wall outlet) and an open USB port on your laptop. They are very easy to setup and install and run anywhere from $60 - $150.

Hope this helps. Cheers!

Well,dear friend;
You will have to purchase an Internal OR External dvd burner,
and many stores will assist you in the right type and even show you How TO letter rip!!!

I would say, you have an OLDER laptop,for it NOT to have a burner,because most today come with one.

check out these links for assistance also. ICY

You can buy an external DVD-RW. Check around for prices and connectivity. Office Depot and Staples have them for around $100-$110. Youcan probably pay less on the internet or through eBay, but you can't see what you are buying until you get it, and you pay shipping.

some dvd gamers will in undemanding terms play chum version dvd or NTSC . chum is ecu and NTSC is american . in case you examine you dvd participant it would say which it fairly is. maximum dvd gamers in europe are chum certainly. even though if do examine the fromat your saving your dvd whilst you burn in on your computing device. This replaced into happening to me a whilst in the past on my mac the place it would in undemanding terms play on the computing device and on no dvd gamers. while i replaced into burning the record the record call had to end in .cdr so it would be like minded to any dvd participant. The discs dont seem the challenge, any time-honored dvd-r / rw from tesco could be nice. i wish this helps you some what .

If your laptop have a moblie drive, means that you can take out the optical drive, you can buy a upgrade option from the brand of laptop you purchase from.

Of course, you can make use of the external USB optical drive which cost you lesser. You will need to install the software that come the optical drive.
