A motherboard (otherwise known as the mainboard or system board) is the main circuit board of a computer. It is usally screwed (or otherwise attached) to the bottom (in a desktop case) or the side (in a tower case). All other circuit board attach to this board, it is the backbone of your system.
On the motherboard itself, you will find the processor, usually covered with a heat sink and fan (other systems use different cooling methods), RAM (long thin circuit boards that provide temporary memory for your computer), slots for expansion cards such as your graphics card, sound card, modem, network adapter, etc.
The hard-drives, floppy disk drive, CD-ROM and or DVD-ROM, will be connected to the motherboard via ribbon connectors, which are lots of little wires joined together to form a flat ribbon.
All of these features should be fairly easy to spot, but it's best to let someone who knows what they're doing take a look at your system.
I'd just like to add that, though someone on here has said that the motherboard is in the CPU, the CPU stands for Central Processing Unit, and refers to the processor, not the whole system as some people think.

If you have to ask what it is, you don't need to know!
Let an expert fiddle around fro repairs and upgrades or get a friend who has some hardware knowledge to do it for you. By all means watch, but don't touch!
Inside the PC case there is a lot of unprotected electronics. Even the static from your body can destroy your circuits.
If you are interested in learning, enrol in a night school class or at the very least go to PC World and Buy a Book on the subject.

I would really have to ponder why you want to know this? but ok your mother board brings together all the imporant parts and makes sure they comunicate properly with each other. It is basically the big circuit board screwed onto the inside of the case. It is allot less complicating looking as you might think... look at http://www.computer-hardware-guide.net/gigabyte-motherboard.html

You talking about a processor or a mother board?Micro ATX , Mid tower (i) or slim (c)? ATX boards generally average 12" long X 9.5". Micro ATX boards are in the area of 9.5"X 9.5". The full size board will not fit in a "i" case. The power source for a 4600i is standard ATX. I have never seen a "c". A little proof reading on you part would help to answer you question better.
