I've never heard of a major in learning disability. There are many types of learning disabilities. Special education will provide training on how to teach children who are in need of special ed. services. You would most likely have more of a diverse background getting a degree in special education. It would definitely make you more marketable when you start your job search.
It is a great career (special ed.)...you'll be happy!

I have never heard of a major in just learning disabilities. Most special education majors qualify a person to work with learning disabilities, autism, and a range of other disabilities that affect education.

I think you might be thinking to have a Major in learning disability but that not what's in called. You can have Major in Special Education with different specialties ie. Learning Disable, Deaf, Blind ext. If you mean the other way around as in severe learning disability then it it refers to how much trouble you have.

There are 2 different BS Intervention Specialist licenses. Mild to Moderate (MM) or Moderate to Intensive(MI). Most children with learning disabilities and/or special learning needs fall into one of the two categories based on IQ. Children can have specific learning disabilities in either category. To work in a field with people with mental health issues you need to find out what type of job you want first. Social work? Case management? Job Coach? Generally these jobs require a BS.

Go for Special Ed and then you can specialize once you are in a school system. It's a critical shortage area in just about every state. In Florida you can get tuition reimbursement and loan forgiveness programs for majoring in a critical shortage area and I am sure many other states offer something similar. You will never be hurting for a job if you major in that. Good luck!

Usually you can major in special education and then pick a specialty. At my college I am a special education major with an endorsement for Severe And Profound disorders. If you want you can major in Special Education with the specialty of High Incidence

Special Education does nnot provide just for learning disabilities. It provides for all disabilities.
