Ferdinand Magellan is not a Spanish. He is actually a Portuguese who works for its arch-rival Spain because he cannot get a break from a colonial power at that time - Portugal.

Magellan was on a Mission to discover the best spices at that time. Spices is so expensive at that time, it's just like gold.

Anyway, Magellan was fascinated with the beauty of the Philippines that's why they colonized the Philippines. They even stopped over to Guam on the way to the Philippines and believe it or not, did not see Hawaii on their way.

Mabuhay!

The Spaniards did not attack the Philippines. There was no Philippines yet when Magellan arrived in these islands after long voyage crossing the Pacific Ocean from the americas. He was killed in Mactan , Cebu, Spain sent many missionary voyages to these islands coming from Acapulco, Mexico. Miguel Lopez de Legaspi set up his stronghold in Cebu before setting up another in Manila and named these islands, Philippines in honor of their King Philip II. This was the start of the Acapulco-Manila galleon trade. The Spaniards spread into these islands carting away they think is valuable to their king. To appease the natives, they befriended them, converted them into Christianity.
Spain wanted a greater share of the profitable spice trade which were dominated by other europeans. They went through different trade route, and that was through the americas instead of competing the Portugese and the Dutch through the Indian Ocean.
After long years of neglect, discrimination and abuses, the Filipinos started to revolt.

Well, Philippines is strategically located in the Pacific, this will enable them better access to major destinations in SE asia. Spanish conquistadores also wanted to spread Christianity amongst the natives. They were also after the spices in the islands because spices were thought to be valued more than gold in Europe. There is also an ongoing competiton between the Spanish and Portuguese on voyages to faraway lands. I think more than anything else, this is really what they are after: glory.

The Spaniards did not "attack" the Philippines per se. They were colonizing lands for Spain. In those days (it seems), every land was a free for all land grab for major European powers of that time. England, Portugal, Spain and others sent their emissaries to other countries and declared ownership. They wanted more resources, more slave labor to get those resources and money from taxes. Yes, they also taxed locals just because they lived in their own land. :(

God-because they want to make philippines a catholic country
Gold-because the philippines have many spices which are considered to be very rare at that time like malucca the spice island
Glory-because to prove spain's power the only way is to colonize countries

Yes,,they are traders...and the colonization starts...
Spanish colonizer succeeded in introducing Christianity in Luzon and Visayas but were unsuccessful in Mindanao, where Moslem staved off Spanish efforts.

The said attacked has something to do with revolutionary movement during Spansih regime.

To give them closer access to Japan. They wanted to control the trade routes so the English and Dutch couldn't compete in the silk and tea markets.
