i think that many of the personalities in the history of art are chosen to have a special destiny. maybe they were picked by god to do some kind of work or just worship. but also i think that some artists , by their own will, choose to give their artistic works to the lord.
for example, i look at bach`s life and see his modesty, his simplicity and extreme passion that he had in writing pieces for organ but what is there to say about his passions (of matthew, john) great vocal-symphonic works, of a complexity that astounds us the moment we just hear some notes... are that they are all dedicated to god, to his birth, his crucifixion and his resurrection
or beethoven.. he could not even hear and he wrote his 9th symphony with the final ode on schiller`s lyrics.. "joyful, joyful, lord we adore thee... " and so on... he was also trying to find a harmony, something special... and through his works god is praised..
look at brahms ... he was called the classic of the romantic period .. his german requiem is brilliant.. a prayer dedicated to divinity..
and so many others. and even if we don`t speak about their religious works, we can find that there is a spark of genius in everything that made them famous. and sometimes you just wonder how could they even write such masterpieces? i think that God did chose them to be some kind of message senders to the rest of the humanity that listens their works.. and maybe some of them dedicated what they wrote as a token of gratitude..

Very difficult question to answer. All are brought into the world by the same process by nature. But a few differ from others. This we call the gifted. How and why is not answerable, rather we have rational answer to give. I do not want to answer by bringing religion into this. When we find that the query is not answerable we seek the refuge of religious belief and God. An X factor.

Nobody is going to give you a proper answer. Some say Genetically, which if that's the case, how did it get there in the first place? And what if it's a visual idea? How do you explain visions of future reference? Methinks possibly spiritual at first, then natural, due to it actually being built or painted or whatever the case may be.

God gives us all talents.
How we use them is up to us.
I am sure there are alot more geniuses out there that never use their talents at all, ie hide them under a bushel basket.
Some use them for evil purposes and some just don't try very hard. We are capable of a lot more than we really do in a lifetime.

I don't think so.. That's a very unfortunate state of affairs for the rest of us 'unchosen' few... Why not me Lord??? No, who knows what DNA make up produces a genius, but they all work hard and it's a lifetime of dedication. Also, some like Van Gogh are not considered genius' at the time of their lives- he never sold a single painting, now the sell for millions. So society and it's fashion decides who is a genius and who is not. You could be one, but we're just not thinking your way yet!

i think geniuses like Leonardo da Vinci chose to use what God had given them to the fullest possible extent.
i think we all have it in us to be just a exceptional, if we stretch ouselves like he did. (he took huge risks, like saying the earth revolved around the sun...that was damndable herisy in his day)

Considering his output, ranging from sketches of human anatomical parts, scientific suggestions and diagrams bordering on clairvoince and oil painting on canvas, I will still hesitate to call him a genius. Moreover his ideas on God boardered on heresy.

Not much to debate, its both. Different artists reach their peak at different ages. Some get worse some get better. Mozart composed pieces of music at very young ages but thats not to say that he didnt get better with age.

i think that we are all chosen and gifted how ever some of us are able to tap into our gifts better than others and some of us are not able to do so because our interest and time does not allow us to but in essence we all are chosen and gifted .
