Like most things. In moderation they look fine and delight children and adults alike.
Massively over-done gawdy displays of extreme naff-ness seems just a bit to yucky for me - BUT if the homeowner / neighbours like that sort of thing, who am I to spoil their fun.
Each to their own.

I think they are a beautiful way to decorate for the Christmas Holy days. Mind you some are really elaborate, and I wonder at the time and Patience, as will a the expenses involved. There is an annual drive I take, as do many others, on Lake shore drive to see the homes decorated with Christmas scenes and lights. These are Large Homes, and are done by professionals, and include life size Nativity scenes and many other beautiful ornamentations. I enjoy it, and one can always conserve the energy by cutting the hours or days, they are left on. There will always be some that will disagree with anything that is being done. Have a Blessed Christmas, Jesus is the reason for the Seasson!

Done properly..they look good, but when all they are is a miss-mash of lights...why bother?
There are places near where I live, in fact a whole close that decorates tastefully for Xmas, complete with Santa's grotto. They charge for children to see Santa and give the money to the local hospital, this is ok..all done in Kenny Everett's words..."in the best possible taste"
However, there are also houses nearby who just put up the miss-mash..which quite honestly looks a mess.

I have a special reason that I like to really light up the night sky with my Christmas lights. I do as much as I can . 16 years ago a baby girl died in may arms on Oct. 1,2000. When Christmas cam e I realized how much I had looked forward to her ( my first daughter I had 5 boys) watching the lights twinkle. Since she was not with me here on earth I sent a message of love with lights to the heavens for my only daughter. It really helped me cope with her loss and it is my way every year to say I still love you and remmber you. I now have a total of nine children 7 boys and 2 girls but there is still one safely in the arms of God that i send my message to every year. Love never dies it is eternal and forever. Other than that reason I enjoy all the Christmans lights and wonder if someone else has a special reason. Have a Merry Chrsitmas and a Blesses New Year.

I like to look at them..this time of year when it gets dark so early..it is nice to see lights and it warms the spirit..even in the old days people would light candles and invite the warmth in to ward against the night. It can be very beautiful.

There OK, but a lot of people go over the top, I think some forget about Christmas and it just becomes a competition who can have the most up, and maybe get in the paper

Theres an old gent near us who does all the front of his house every year, his kids have all grown up but he does it for the kiddies,it is very well known.
All the children ask to go and see the christmas house.in fact I know parents who have to pass it every time they take the children out.
I think its lovely of him because it must cost him a fortune in electricity.

My residing house is defined in pink/white icicle lighting fixtures, my residing house windows in blue, and my fenceline in multicolor. I have a santa clause and reindeer interior the front backyard on one section and a blowup snowman kinfolk on the different, and a blow up candycane archway that announces seasons greetings. seems large.

Those houses covered from rooftop to floor are a joke, look a mess and are a waste of electricity. A nice line of lights accross the bay window etc can look nice. I like these blue dangling ones that look like 'little icicle beads'.
But mostly they are chavvy and look cheap.
Un-necessary and a wast of fosil fuels. I think outside lighting to more than one plug outlet should be banned it's a fire hazard too.
Fireworks too! Bad for our enviro, must be bad have you seen all the smoke and fog that is produced, I think bonfire night will be banned one day!, When these things are finally addressed.
