A great writer (I cant remember who) once said:"He who tires of London is tired of life, cause London has all that life has to offer."
I live in London, and I love it, there is something for everyone.
If you are party people and like clubs the city is filled with them.
If you prefer going down to your local to watch the football, every neighborhood has a local pub.
There are many good and lesser known football teams and stadiums in London, as well as the Oval for cricket if your a sports fan.
The city is filled with parks and large open green spaces as well as a beautiful zoo if you a nature lover.
And Oxford circus, Brent Cross and many more great places to shop.
There are museums and great places to spend a day out, and there is some sort of festivities or celebration almost every weekend at Trafalgar Square.
The only bad things is overcrowding on public transport during rush hour, the fact that you have to pay congestion charge for your car if you want to drive into the city, and the fact that everything from rent to groceries gets more and more expensive the nearer you get to the city center,
but on the bright side, the average salary is higher in London, so you wont spend all your money on travel or living expenses alone.

Don't know where you're from but I'm from London. It is expensive in terms of eating out and public transport. Owning a car is also expensive. The healthcare is free but as a visitor you may need to pay unless your work pays for you. Where you live depends on your salary. As a general rule, the further out from the centre you are the cheaper the rent however there are many exceptions.

It is a great city and if people appear cold it's because they are wary of strangers ....it is a city after all! Use the site below to get an idea of the names of areas and the cost in rent. Remember not to think in your currency as the pound is very strong at the moment. Calculate it from what you will be getting as pay in british pounds.

Overall, London is a great place and there is something here for everyone. Don't just stick to central London like West End, Soho, Covent Garden to hang out. There is so much more to see and do.

Good luck

Living in London's a lot of fun. So much on offer with the history, culture, pubs, bars, music, shopping, sport, art, theatre and heaps more. Sometimes it feels like living at the centre of the universe!

On top of that its so multicultural and you'll meet people from all over the world. Despite what people say the transport is excellent, and even though its one massive city a lot of the suburbs all maintain a village feel.

On the downside the weather can be pretty ordinary, and its expensive, but here's always enough on to more than make up for that.

It is expensive (especially with the conversion rate to the sterling pound, but if you are paid in pounds, it's not too bad). Public transportation is bloody ugly expensive, but they have introduced the oyster card, a prepaid card with helps significantly with speed and cost.

The city is large, and not bad looking at all, but that depends on where you are living. There is plenty to do though, especially if you like museums. They have plenty of them, all top quality, ranging from classic art, modern art, science and history. And for the most part, they are all free.

It's expensive, but a ton of fun. You will be hard pressed to be bored in this culture. If you every tire of the museums, sites, shopping, and discotecs, everybody drinks constantly, so there is one more way to stay preoccupied.

well i've lived in london since erm... i was born but i suggest u move to definetly check out all the touristy things - the london eye (try bith daytime and nightime), oxford street, london dungeon, tower of london, buckingham palace,
and then, convent garden etc... but be careful about pickpocketing in these places - and seeing as the majority of meuseums are free check them out!! there all down south ken(kensington) there are also tour buses but the best tour you can get is on these cool duckbuses(i think they are called that anyway) which bring you around all the usual tourist places and then it splashs into the thames which is great. and if you want, hang around the east end for a bit maybe check out bricklane market!! or portabello market (closer to my house) notting hill and hte museums previously mentioned are also in that area. If you enjoy football(soccor) then check out a local stadium - there are Arsenal,Chelsea,QPR,Brentford,... Athletic,Crystal Palace,Fulham fc,Gillingham,Luton,Leighton Orient,Millwall,Reading,Southe... hotspurs, watford, wycombe and west ham!!
My mates and i enjoy the imax cinema in waterloo(which boasts the biggest screen in britain) which has fantastic 3d flims. Also Ally Pally(Alexandra Palace) and Bayswater(whiteleys) have fabulos ice-skating rinks if you enjoy that.. a couple of tips on the areas in london depending on where you are going.

North London -Fun area, home of tottenham and arsenal, in highbury.

North West London - My area!! home to the (not finished) wembley stadium, Harlesden is the rave capital, and St johns wood is quite nice, home to the beatles - if u liked them i guess u could cross abbey road or leave a message on the abbey road studio wall (im not sure if ur allowed 2 but every1 does) .

West London - Bit snobby, except ladbroke grove where the people are pretty normal, nice shops :D, some people may say go notting hill carnival but i wouldnt suggest it if you are new to the area as the carnival always ends up in loads of deaths, and i always escape london at this time of year, as the carnival goes down my area, and people get stabbed at the bottom of the street etc... not nice!! (CONJESTION CHARGE -NOT GOOD)

East London - great markets; but no cockneys live there anymore, the majority of them moved to essex

Central - Kool but u can't live there:congestion charge!! :(
the most fun place also known as the square mile - HEAVEN for fun loving people

South London - very boring area - nothing there, but you can always go up the river to the fun side!!

hope this has been helpful - any enjoy london!!!

Beware of the cost of things! Many things at fast food places, pharmacies, etc. cost AT LEAST twice as much as they would in the States. Believe me, I learned the hard way when I went this past August.
