The standard catalog on world coins is not too helpful in where mint marks are but the Canadian coin book is. I believe since the Victorian Canadian cents were made at the Royal mint or Heaton mint, the mints marks are probably in the same place or close by. The 1882-H cent has the H under the date, so look near the date of your penny. It is best that you don't find it, for it then would be worth around $75.00 in fine, the one without the H is worth $2.75 in the same grade. The 1882-H is common the 1882 is not.If you are from the UK try a local dealer, I gave you U.S. sell prices so you would get less from a dealer here.
As for the guy that has collected for 20 years, there are a lot of coins out there not struck in the USA. They are fun and you can learn a lot, try it!! The coins issued over the centuries by Great Britain are a very historic series.

What does your penny look like.Does it have an Indian or Abe lincoln on the face. There are 2 versions of your penny found for that year and date. It's what they refer to as a bronze penny minted from the early 1800's to the early 1900's. But during those years they changed from the indian head to Abe lincoln. But at also at that time they were not using mint marks like they do taday. So your coin may not have a mint mark. Let me know what head is on the coin and I can get you the price's

the h or the 11 is at the bottom of the bust the value varies according to the condition i would imagine v good condition about £ 7 poor about 50p
