Based on your like of philosophy and beliefs, I would highly recommend "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel. It's about a boy who survives for months at sea with a tiger, in a lifeboat. I read the book a month or so ago and LOVED it. You think you have the story figured out and then the author throws in an alternate possible ending and you have to decide on the "truth" yourself...

Try either The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver or The Red Tent by Anita Diamant, both very good novels surrounding religion and beliefs, along with a bit of philosophy if you'd like.

I recently read The Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler. It is a futuristic science fiction novel about a young woman who begins a new faith amid the turmoil of a volent world that has depleted most of it's natural resources.

i don't know the religion part, but Tuesdays with Morrie is a good book about the philosophy of life about accepting and letting go . it covers a lot of aspects of life, i was hesitant to read it because i thought that maybe it would be like those cheesy books but i enjoyed it, it you liked the prophet you will probably like Tuesdays with Morrie

You might try "Reading Lolita in Tehran" (http://www.amazon.com/Reading-Lolita-Tehran-Memoir-Books/dp/081297106X/sr=1-1/qid=1165765246/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-9532857-6636966?ie=UTF8&s=books) - it's the true story of a group of Iranian women who formed a book club to meet and discuss books in secret.

As far as fiction, "The Sparrow" by Maria Doria Russell (http://www.amazon.com/Sparrow-Mary-Doria-Russell/dp/0449912558/sr=1-1/qid=1165765322/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-9532857-6636966?ie=UTF8&s=books) is science fiction on the surface, but underneath that it's about religion and the nature of religion, God and humanity. The same can be said for "Beauty" by Sheri S. Tepper (http://www.amazon.com/Beauty-Spectra-Special-Editions-Tepper/dp/0553295276/ref=pd_sim_b_2/102-9532857-6636966).

If you haven't already read him, do yourself a favor and pick up something by Tolstoy. Anna Karenina and War and Peace are long but well worth the weight.

satanic bible is a good choice (and don't vote bad, like you did to dana, it's true, I'm not meaning I'm satanic, but if you want to learn about new things and you like stuff about religion, a satanic bible could be interesting! )
