someone said to swap oil pumps. no no NO! check the oil pressure with a manual gauge. 20 to 30 is ok at idle. u will need to isolate the sound and here's how u can do that.u can buy a mechanics stethoscope at oreillys . not autozone. if u don't have that available, use a long screwdriver or long piece of conduit pipe. it has to be matel, transfer the sound waves, and listen on the other side like u r listening in a tube. move the far end around and listen. it will take some time to learn how to hear ur problem just be patient and practice. it may be in the timing cover or not. good luck.

Hmm.. did you change the oil? Change to a different weight? I am pretty sure it is something due to the oil type. Does it go away? If you had drain down those lifters they will take sometime to build up oil psi in them. Also... if you oil pressure is good, I wouldnt remove the pump.

Usually when you start the truck it takes a few seconds for those hydrualics to fill and warm up...so it take awhile. If you were off on timing you would know it.

The new oil pump may be faulty... that could be the sound of your lifters tapping. Try putting the old oil pump back on and see if it still taps.

did you prime the new pump,to get the air out of it?it sounds like the lifters are not pumping up.
