1) Everest, highest mountain in the world at 29,029 feet.
2) Mauna Kea, tallest mountain in the world at 33,465 feet tall although only 13, 796 is out of the water.

Next to each other Mauna Kea would be 4400 feet taller, hence the distinction between the two terms; highest and tallest.

I cannot see any difference between (1) & (2). Try reframing your question. Do you want to know
(1)What is the heighest peak of the world ? and
(2) Which mountain has the heighest average height ?

And to stretch this out a bit-you could sink either one of mark's mountains in the marianna's trench and have a mile of water over the top of it.
