I am an Indian and my Girl friend is a British Citizen. We intend to get the court marriage done in India before we go for the traditional wedding. Can anyone tell me how long is the process and if there is a web where i can get the info? We would not have too much of a time in India so i want some real quick solutions

I could not find anything relevant in Yahoo Answers that could have answered my queries so therefore the question.

Congratulations on hooking a British national. I hope both of you are majors. In India both of you have to fill up an application for marriage in the Registrar of Marriage office of your jurisdiction. You can find out at the closest Municipal office they will direct you. You have to provide address proof and passport size photographs. After 30 days after the submission of application you can get married. If you have less than 30 days time try to bribe. It works some times. You can also get married in Arya Samaj without much delay. They issue a marriage certificate immediately. If you have any problem you may contact me on 9849713810

OK. You can marry her under The Foreign Marriage Act,1969. According to this Act you can marry any non Indian person with the general conditions such as age of groom not less then 21yrs & bride not less then 18yrs, neither of them having a spouse living, neither of them an idiot or a lunatic., & should not be within the degree of prohibition relationship. In the Act you have to give notice of 30 days to the marriage officer of the district in which you reside in India. This 30 days period is for any objection to such marriage after the expery of this period the marriage officer will solominize your marriage & issue a marriage cetificate to this effect. As far objections are concerned these could be only those if any one is contraving any of the conditions which I mentioned above. So if you have 30 days go & move your application immediately for the marriage under this Act.
