maybe they figured the weight of 6 people (who are not slim) would equal the weight of 15 average weighing people. lol okay...that's not funny. but I didn't know what else to put down.

an elevator can carry more of what the maximum value says. but the alrm would go if the maximum load was exceeded. this is done to give the line that holds the elevator a lesser tension and to avoid the elevator operating at its "ultimate" capacity.

It's all about the weight limit. If you get 5, 500lb people on that elevator, it's going to put a strain on the motor.

!5 average sized people who are standing still not moving and have little personal items(ie:pocketbooks,briefcases) You must never overload an elevator's weight limit as it will weigh more than the counter balance and could possibly fall.
