I called Child Protective Services on my friend the other day because she was being accused and present during a time when my neighbor attempted to kill his mother. While I told CPS that the child was not present and that from what I was told the mother was accused of having the gun in her possession, my concern was that if the above were true what was going to happen to the child. The mother already had an open report about her and she is an extreme alcoholic and goes from house to house with the child. She has even been in my home and i had to tell her to not come around anymore because of her drinking and horrible behavior and I have three children. She some how knows I called and has threatened to bring me and my kids down with her. Is this legal and can I be suede for acting in good faith? I never said she had the gun only that it was a claim against her and that was found to be true so CPS picked the child up.

I don't care what anyone says CPS is not suppose to tell who complains but they do . My ex husband and I turned his sister in and they told her it was us. Caused lots of problems the family all said she should be turned in but no one would do it. Yes sometimes when they get involved you can not get rid of them, but someone does need to help these kids when no one else will.

It is not uncommon for state or county enforcement depts., such as, CPS or WFU (welfare fraud unit), or even the police, to at times release information (and names) during their investigation. This is inappropriately used to get a confession from the alleged suspect. This is also a practice looked down on, from those in the law enforcement field, they tend to signal, a lazy, or zealous, incompetent case worker.

You have done what you felt is best for the child in question, and definitely having guns around is hazardous, and even more so when someone is attempting to kill their mother in-law.

But, being a responsible firearm collector, and a supporter of the right to bear arms, I feel that people need to emphasize more safety and awareness, and finally, know that if you live by the gun, its a good chance that you will die by the gun.

Well your dealing with a bully, an adult bully, but a bully nevertheless. When mean people have their backs against the wall they say a lot of threats to intimidate people.
Words mean nothing.
If your worried tell CPS about the threats if they want you for a witness they will help you find another place to live and get away from the nut case.

She threatened you? Witness intimidation is a felony.
You need to contact the police department and CPS and let them know that you have been threatened after reporting child endangerment. They will add witness intimidation to her list of charges when she is prosecuted.
As for suing you, anyone can be sued for anything, unfortunately. I doubt that she would win though, especially after threatening you.

no it's not legal. be sure to tell authorities of her threat against you . it's a defensable position to be in. against any possible retaliatory litigation she might attempt . you've apparently taken the only responsible course of action you could under the circumstances. considering the issue of a gun. i would immediately seek a court order of protection for you and your family . use the threat and whatever you know about her to assist your request for prudent and timely court action in this matter

CPS will not tell her who made the complaint. She probably just guessed it was you. She can't bring you down unless there is something that she can report you for, like if you were a drug dealer or you beat your kids. Clean your house.

I my self believe CPS has way too much power! Once they are involved it is almost impossible to get rid of them. I hope you didn't open a "Big can of worms"
