Not all gamers use it. I try not to, but playing a game like EverQuest, where if you take too long typing out "Be right back" you might be dead before you send the message. So, "BRB" is a lot easier. And on IMs and such, people might be busy doing something else and want to type fast, so "lmao" might be a quick response to a funny statement. And I really have no idea what POWNGE is.

jackasses...firstly everyone who has any type of online communication device like MSN uses LMAO, ROFL and LOL its not just PC gamers. and secondly they use things like lmao and lol because it is much faster to type. if they were in the middle of a battle and need to say something they have to type it fast...this is why u get a txt sort of speach almost 1337 speak. thirdly things like pownage and ownage is slang...every one uses slang... ownage is sed when u kill some else, pwnage is sed when u completly obliterate some1. pwn is actually a typo tht originated when some1 spelt own wrong. To people above who are just flaming about pc gamers being sad it is proberlly because they have very little experiance in talking to people over the internet because of their lack of friends....

Have you noticed that alot of things have dwindled down to just initials now? Our society has become faster-paced. The initials are great on the internet because they save time, bad typists can do it too, and its universal, everyone understands it. I just didn't understand that POWNGE lol, prob cause I'm not a serious gamer!

It because they are pathetic at typing and sometimes theyre playing a game with turns and time, they need smaller words to go faster. And they like to have their own language.
