Exactly, it depends on where you're from.

I'm from Greece originally, but I learned to speak English with a tutor from the south of England so I say "AYther".

But my wife, who was born in Huntingdon and has lived all her life in and around Hampshire, says "EEther".

I have friends from the North of England who say it both ways, but both come from Leeds.

Interesting question !
