Microsoft is rich. They got that way by working hard at selling ideas, stolen from small, honorable folks, which you bought.
Microsoft is the biggest thief, pirate, convicted multiple felon, on the planet. A modern day Robber Baron! Microsoft just received a THREE YEAR extension to their FELONY DOJ probation!!
I do not go down the dark alleyway, to encounter the mugger who took my wallet, only to show him my watch!!!
I don't deal with any FELONS!!! Why do you think the Corporate leadership is bailing? Money is not good enough for them?
NO, they are bailing because of the stigma attached to how they got their money! Theft, piracy, 361 lost cases of stomping on the inventors of all the concepts contained inside Microsoft's broken virus magnet!
So, Microsoft have all 45,000 servers for Microsoft.com, hotmail.com,MSN.com; all firewalls, all routers; the Lab 400, running on GNU/Linux.
Reasons:
A. Linux is FREE, virus proof, upto 50X faster in all benchmark tests, doesn't crash, replaces upto 12 Microsoft servers and two technicians, per Linux server, and runs 20 desktops concurrently, with up to 4000 open windows on any computer back to the 386!
B. GNU/Linux applications and office suites read/write all Microsoft Office file formats back to 1986!
C. GNU/Linux doesn't crash, is virus free, is stable, is GREEN!
Yeah, Microsoft stinks, and they all know it, and are bailing out. VISTA is a bloated mess! Their stock has been flatlined for 6 years!

Vista has it's share of problems but stick with it as it will get better once they get some of the bugs that are in it as it's still pretty new! If you remember everyone thought XP was utter rubbish when it first came out and quite a few stuck with 98 & ME which are not supported anymore by M$ also support for Xp runs out in 2011 so by then you will really have no choice anyway oh and good luck on getting a downgrade to work as i've heard it's a complete ***** of a problem to get it to work properly! So sticking a copy of Xp would only be a last resort for me and an expensive one at that

Try uninstalling Windows Defender if you have that, then re-installing. It gave me the same problem. Otherwise use System Restore or uninstall the last update.
The problem is we all use different chips, cd/dvd drives, programs, graphics cards etc etc and XP has to recognise and work with every different combination.
Its not likely that any system can do that without the odd glitch.
If you don't like Microsoft as a company then you can switch to Linux. But it really is more difficult to use especially if you're a newbie.
And thats where the second set of problems start - not only has it all got to work smoothly, its all got to work via GUI.

Steve Ballmer, Microsoft's CEO, should be in jail. He is on the record making a threat to kill Google. He also threw a chair at an employee he didn't want to leave. He is a vile, evil person, and his attitude leaks into every level of the corporation.
Vista is lame - just look at this amazing video of the latest Linux 3D desktop - SO cool.

Do the right thing, and go to Linux - there's a very warm welcome awaiting you from the Tux Team! :)
