The level of harmlessness in the meaning of facetious is up to interpretation. When I am being facetious, I make a humorous/witty/clever remark that is not to be taken seriously. Examples: Daughter: I decided to clean my room today. Me: Really? You and what army? Girlfriend: Does this dress make my hips look bigger? Me: Only when you wear it. Being facetious is aimed at humor, not criticism.
