Manned spaceflight has reached it maturity. Initially the science developed for manned space flight 30 years ago paid for itself and them some with all the beneficial science.

Today manned space flight is a waste of money. We know how to keep people alive in space. We are not learning any where near enough to justify the billions on manned flight.

Unmanned flight is a bargain today. We should be investing in unmanned flight to continue develping our knowledge of space. There are so many places we can improve science within unmanned space flight, the money should go there.

The space station is not generating science. It is only being kept up there to be maintained. We cuould be accomplishing the same amout of science with a robotic crew, for far less money if we has just invested in robotic experiments. That is because the guys in space are not dong any science 95% of the time.

Dump manned space flight and start the investment in robotic operations. Look at what the two rovers on Mars are accomplishing.

NASA is stuck in an old and now broken paradigm of people. It is too expense for the science.

Honestly it was a good idea in the very beginning but as we have all been told the cost and what they are doing it just doesn't make sense anymore.Think of all the money that we have spent from the time we land on the moon til now, what a waste.Besides here we are in2007 when we quote " will be driving our cars in the air and that our past ways of life would be in a museum". I don't want to spend billions of dollars to send people in space anymore to loose more bolts. That's my opinion.

I think that space exploration is a good use of resources, especially now. I believe that Stephen Hawking said it best:

"I don't think the human race will survive the next thousand years, unless we spread into space. There are too many accidents that can befall life on a single planet. But I'm an optimist. We will reach out to the stars."

I guess it could be put to a better and higher use on the Earth BUT Governments sure know how to spend it far more destruvtively than space too.

Every billion in space is a billion not wasted obliterting another country with a war that will never be won.

it's a fantastic way to spend out money, and to spend our time.

finding out what's out there, what it all is made from and why...are amazing answers to seek.

the feeling and justification if why we exist, where we came from and whats going to happen next are the three buring issues we all face, sending probes and space rcokets out there is a step towards this.

despite all the knowledge we do already have about the universe, we are still only scratching the surface.

Would it make sense to you if you only lived in your room at home? If yu knew there were other rooms, and even beyond that other homes, and streets, boulevards, cities. Would you want to know what was out there? It is the same thing. We are universally speaking, living our entire lives in a very small room out in the woods.
