I have old parents and i buy them things that interest them or things they can watch or read.

My dad likes photography, so i bought him a mono-pod and my mum likes David Attenborough so i bought her The Life of Birds, the complete series.
All totalled £55

Buy them a electric blanket, as people age they get cold easier. If they still go out buy them a gift certificate for a nice resturant, or a gift certificate for each of them at a store you know that they shop at.

Zimma frame? Pipe and slippers?
Debenbams do a weekend away for about £100. It's a voucher for a chain of hotels somewhere. they just ring up, book them selves in and off they go, weekend away from their lovely daughter, job done.
Having said that, my father is in his fifties and went paint balling a few weeks ago. They don't always slow down as they get older!
