What does two snare hits and a cymbal crash have to do with comedy? Why? Who? Where?

It sounds like someone tripping and falling. Which for some reason is a funny thing to see.

i never thought of that, but i like doing those sound effects. It is two snare hits and a cymbal crash, my friend always argues with me, saying its a different combination.

I am guessing through vaudeville or burlesque stage shows, about 100 years ago, and probably in the US or England. Live musicians accompanied the acts which were highly popular before movies became widely available. Many well know comedians of the past got their start in burlesque.
