There is a connection between music and the emotions of the mind.
repetitive music tends to annoy intelligent people, whilst classical music soothes them.
So what types of music a person likes could relate to their diverse emotions, or whether they have an open or closed mind.
IE if you only listen to one sort of music because it is in fashion, then I guess it shows the person to be insecure in their own identity.
Music relates to our moods and emotions, so if their is such a thing called the soul, I would believe then that music could indeed effect, or inspire a person's perceptions.

I don't know if it's soul or not but music goes to a place in me that nothing else does.

Music is said to be "NAADA BRAHMAN'
(it means giod in sound). So when music comes from soul it is exilarating, because it brings out the divine sound which has no language.
