Hello,

I've seen the queen up close in Buckingham Palace as my dad received an MBE from her. I think the queen is a very paradoxical character, she is extraordinary in many ways, its hard to realise that she was brought up in an era that seems a relic of our victorian past.

The queen had no choice in the matter of becoming the monach (nobody asked her if she would like to do the job!) it was just always expected of her, it was her genetic fate, it was an accident of birth & place & time.

What is incredible is how she has kept her committment to the British people over the decades & for that its hard not admire her. Especially in an age were genuine committment is very rare.

**The queen as a person I think is quite mysterous even today, why? because she doesnt show or rarely shows any outward emotions. This stiffness, and lack of emotionality makes her seem at times rather distant and alouf, & its hard to comprehend what she really thinks.

**Personally I like the queen and its hard not to admire her courage and on another level I feel tremendously sorry! for her. Why? because her position as monarch makes it extremely hard if not impossible to be like most ordinary people. But there again she isnt an ordinary person you could argue and I dont think you would be wrong in many ways.

**I think the queen has a very tough job, just imagine if you dont feel like openning yet another hospital, supermarket shopping mall, what if you dont feel like seeing Tony Blair for drinks, she must at times get totally bored out of her mind. There must be limits to the excitement of unveiling plaques, cutting ribbons, I name this ship XXX and all who sail in her, etc, etc.

There are an awful lot of whinging ne'er do wells on this site.
The monarchy may be an anachronism, but it works: far superior to the system of government across the water. The Queen can do no wrong and is a superb example of dignity.
God Bless and Save The Queen.

The Queen is a Fine example to us all and as a Figure Head, many Countries both admire her and look to her for recognition. Her opinion is still the most powerful in the world.
Those people who say things like "What does she do?" and "Who needs her?" or "She is a waste of money!" are either from a country who have lessor ideals and do not understand the whole ethos of the situation or are too thick to bother explaining too!

As for Charles, I only hope that he gets passed over for the Boys. He is not a fine example and his actions and lack of self control during his Marriage to Diana prove that. Camilla is just an Old SL4G and should never become Queen. His marriage to her should exclude him from the Throne.

Yes - I do like and admire the Queen. She has done a marvellous job - in what must be quite a lonely position at times. It should be pointed out that she was not raised to be Monarch - it was only because Edward VIII abdicated and her father George VI became King - that she became Heir to the Throne.

Yes I do. She has been an excellent Queen, in her reign the monarchy has changed more than at any other time during history, thanks mainly to her.She has weathered family turmoil which was played out in front of the world; imagine how anyone of us would have felt if `her troubles` had happened to our families. She strikes me as a lovely lady, and I bet she has a wicked sense of humour! I hope she stays with us for years to come.

I have my doubts - she appears to have had some odd ideas on bringing up Charles or was he just born without a backbone? I'm not sure you can say you like anyone without actually knowing them. What they are like in public is bound to be different from what they are in private. So, how are we to know if they are likeable? However, I admire the job she does and she pleases a lot of people.

Never really had an opinion. But, she visited town a while back, the children's excitement and the looks on their faces as she drove by and waved really changed my mind. A lot of work went into preparing a presentation for her and a street wise, 'moody' teenager who was chosen to be part of the dance group made a point of telling me all about it when I next saw him in Sainsbury's. He couldn't hide his delight, although he pretended to be cool. Yep, I guess she does do something for peoples lives, even if all she had to do is sit there and be polite. (Although that must be hard - A secondary school dance club is no match for the royal ballet.)
