Political correctness (also politically correct or PC) is a term used to describe language, or behavior, which is claimed to be calculated to provide a minimum of offense, particularly to the racial, cultural, or other identity groups being described. The concept is not exclusive to the English language. A text that conforms to the ideals of political correctness is said to be politically correct.

As we finally threw off the shackles of racism, it became apparant that language would have to change. Words that were previously used in a pejorative sense such as nig*er, wog, coon, paki were felt by people of any intelligence and courtesy to have no place in referring to ethnic minorities in this country. Some called this political correctness, most called it respect and simple courtesy.
A few half wits took the idea beyond the reasonable, objecting to terms like blackboard and manhole - these people were rightly ridiculed.
However, the racists saw their opportunity to divide the races and kept alive the idea of political correctness.
They fed the press with lies about "Baa Baa Blue Sheep" being sung in schools and about non-Christians being offended by Christmas celebrations - and the stupid believed them. The recent fuss about firms 'banning' Christmas is more to do with ensuring productivity and avoiding litigation than any worry about upsetting non-Christians.
Ask yourself who benefits from the stupid ideas that are "political correctness gone mad". The answer is those who seek to divide the races in this country. Political correctness is kept alive as a propaganda tool by the racist groups like the BNP, so they can fool the white population into thinking the non-white groups are a threat to them.
When you hear this "political correctness gone mad" nonsense, start to think for yourself. I bet it doesn't fit in with your own first-hand experience!

Political correctness from the viewpoint you are coming from means just the opposite. It is acceptance and tolerance of all lifestyles, feelings and even religious beliefs to an extreme degree. It is an issue that wouldn't exist if we weren't forced to accept the lifestyles of all people.

Wikipedia does a good job.
Mostly it is about people who don't like other people invoking the power of government to tilt the balance of advantage to their own interest group's favor.
