I think this is the most shameful thing about America. It is barbaric. Surely we have moved beyond such a primitive and cruel method of punishment. Studies have shown it to be ineffective as a deterrent. Hell, if you get turned on by killing someone you're not going to stop for anything. Unfortunately. And this is the most horrendous thing to have going on in society, the state-approved killing of individuals. Talk about cruel and unusual punishment. To Europeans, it seems unusual anyway. I can't believe it is still happening in the modern world; there has been a move away from this kind of thing since the middle ages - is America so backward? Really? So cold, efficient, and...encouraging - imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. If the state kills, surely the individual can? Not to mention the significant probablity that innocent people will suffer death at the hands of America. May this cursed practice leave this land.

I'm not in favor of it. Its hard to be 100% certain a criminal is guilty. Many convictions are made based on relatively circumstantial evidence. Plus, it is probably the most judgemental act a society can perform. Remove them from society, of course. A violent criminal needs to be taken away from people. But what does killing them solve? What kind of message are we sending to our future generations? That its okay to treat violence with even more violence? That revenge is a good thing? Besides, isn't rotting in jail thinking about your crime for life a worse fate than death?
And don't give me that 'its cheaper to kill them' argument, because the reverse is true believe it or not. And clearly it doesn't deter crime, b/c the US has one of the highest crime rates in the world and we're one of few post-industrial countries left with the death penalty.

I do agree with N.C.L. above. Prison is no walk in the park, but for many criminals it is nicer than their own house. I mean three guaranteed meals a day, a bed to sleep in, and guards to watch over you. I think the death penalty should be used as it is today, but in cases where the murder was senseless or over pity reasons then the person should be thrown into a pit to fend for themselves with the lowest of the low. Why should we have to pay to keep these horrible "people" alive or even to pay to kill them.
So I am in favor of it in most cases.

I am against the death penalty for a few reasons. First, unless the person has confessed, how do you know that they are 100% guilty? More importantly, killing them is letting them off easy. Let them rot in jail and think about what they did for the rest of their lives.

In my attitude, loss of life sentence itself is morally incorrect. no person in this worldwide has the the terrific option to do away with any life no be counted how severe the crime is being commited. besides the shown fact that, whilst viewing it in an economic clever it relatively is genuinely a burden for the rustic. government is spending its expenditure on non rewarding scheme which could be extra suitable used off on different factors. Tax payers are finding out to purchase pointless stuffs. this might impact the wellbeing of the individuals. i think of the terrific way is to grant sentence with the help of valuing the degree of seriousness of the crime committed. If he's an oftentimes going on criminal esp. on homicide and rape circumstances, then loss of life penalty might desire to settle for. in all probability, people who commited the crime for the 1st actual time like drug utilization and etc he deserved to settle for a 2d probability. =)

The punishment should fit the crime. If you guilty of first degree murder you should die. If you killed in self defense you are free. If in an aggravated circumstance or by mistake a lesser punishment should apply. Cold blooded murderers who take life of the Innocent should die!

what a waste,.. why not put them to work for the rest of there lives.... extreme cases,.. e.g. mass murderers, serial killers,.. yeah,.. shoot them,.. but the majority of the rest... most murders are committed out of circumstance,.. had many circumstances not existed,.. the murder wouldn't have happened,.. so use the perfectly good human being otherwise to do perfectly good work to benifit society somehow,... just a thought
