Get a rubber strap & put it on the top part of your foot. Pull it towards you & straighten your foot. It should resist. This is what you want.

the below site has details and pictures of the type of exercises you should be doing after a sprain. the sooner you start the sooner you will be back on your feet. :-)

while sitting in a chair, extend your legs out in front of you.
point your toes as far as you can, then pull them upwards like trying to pull your toes up to touch your shin.. this is a back and forwards movement,, do this exercise several times per foot.
then do side to side. try to rock your foot outwards (without moving your knees) sort of like you are fanning your feet from side to side. move it to the left as far as you can only from the ankle. then move it in. Do this several times per foot.
then rotate it all in a circle around and around a few times per foot..
then if you are standing. go near a wall. stand facing the wall and put both hands on the wall shoulder level. take one foot and while bending both knees, one foot should be behind a few inches like lunging.. bend your knees till you feel the burn in your back calf.. (this helps stretch out the achillies tendon)
I had to do these exercises for 6 months after I slipped on a road curb and tore my ligament (with bone) away from my ankle.. .. it worked.. I am fine without foot pain now..
goodluck!
