Exercise vigorously at times during the day. Take some quiet time to unwind and clear the brain before sleep. If this is insufficent and your brain wakes you, seek councelling as you may have anxiety, resentments, or other raging feelings that need to be dealt with. Computer, video game, or other addictions can cause this brain overactivity as well.
If your body wakes you, Need to go, Don't drink after supper.
Pain, cramping, sickness, nausea, etc... see a Doctor. He can find the reason for the illness, and effect a treatment.
Medication will work for sleep or pain, but it also has side effects that can be harmful. Looking for the cause before medicating will allow you find the real problem. Rather than covering it up with pills which work now, but later you become addicted to them and you still don't know what the original problem even was. Then your really screwed up, and back at square one having an addiction to deal with as well.

My dear, to answer such questions history is most important and you have given no information! Yet i will try my best.
Sleeping troubles are mostly due to mental unrest. The causes are many - if you are a student not faring well is main, worry of future, interview troubles etc. All of them result in depression and loss of sleep.
If you are an employee workmanship, harassment from boss, personal interests, family adjustments, finantial tensions etc. count.
If you are unemployed worry is the main reason. A person gets depressed with uncertainty of future.
There are other reasons also. Please see where you are.
Whatever it may be you should keep one thing in mind that you should never be afraid of anything. You have no other alternative than to face all adverse situations, hence face them boldly.
You should never be negative, do your duty and let God decide.
If nothing above is there purchase a medium round magnet and keep S pole under your neck touching the neck. You will sleep within a few minutes. Avoid direct contact of heart and brain.
If you trust God go on reciting His prayers or simply His name, you will get asleep within a few minutes.

I have trouble going to sleep, staying asleep, waking up too early, and/or not sleeping at all, often for several days. I have a chronic and untreatable form of insomnia, and it's up to me to cure it by retraining myself to sleep (no success there yet). You also have a form of insomnia.

The head Dr. at the sleep center I went to told me that if I wake up during my scheduled sleep time and am awake for more than 10 minutes, to get up and do something, preferably something boring, until I get tired enough to sleep again. This doesn't work for me, but it should for a normal person.

If this persists or worsens, get a referral from your doctor for a sleep study at the nearest hospital with a Sleep Center. Make sure that your insurance will cover it first, it's expensive.

I'm having the same problem. See your doctor for the best advice. I've gotten as little as 2 hours of sleep for several nights in a row. less than 5 hours for about 6 months now. She is sending me for a sleep study, and I also have an appointment to see a counselor for possible depression. It's a chicken/egg problem. Is my lack of sleep due to depression, or is it the cause of depression? See your doctor before it goes too far.

When I can't sleep through the night, I just get up. Do the ironing, dishes, clean your room, whatever. Eventually you will get tired again and you will go into a very deep sleep.

This way you benefit in two ways. Firstly, you get some housework done. Secondly, because your second sleep will be really deep, it is like you get extra sleep. You will feel great.

take melatonin. It is safe and natural. It aids in the production of a hormone produced by the pituitary gland that helps you to regulate sleep. I also have this lavander scented sleep balm which when massaged on the temples is very relaxing and is a big help

i suggest that you take a hot bath before you go to bed, after that lie down comfortably with clean loose clothes and try to read some book....forget about everything that happened during the day and concentrate fully on the book that you're reading. It would make your eyes very tired and you would start to to feel dozy.....
try to listen to some light music too. Don't stress yourself by thinking how late it is and still you are not sleepy yet....just relax!!!
Sleep would come automatically....good luck.
