Not for points, which everybody knows are totally useless, they are given just because this is like a game, but I think I'm here because there always something to learn, even from stupid questions or stupid answers, and here you have both!!!!

If the question is interesting enough then my answer probably won't be the same as most of the other answers. If it's a simple question that anyone can answer (and several already have with the right answer), then I just pass it by. Why bother? If it's a simple question but the other answers are wrong, then I'll sometimes give the right answer (and be voted down anyway, oh well). If it's a good setup question then I practice one-liners. If it's a dumb question I give it the dumb answer it deserves. If it's a serious question I try to give a serious answer. Occasionally I'll read the answers and rip one or more of the other answers. Sometimes I just have fun with it.

I am courious as to see what the general public view is. Now the problem with that is I have no idea of the legitimacy of these questions or answers. for me personaly it is a learning exsprieience to see how some of the people in the world feel are the "answers" to the questions. its wired that if you asked these people on the streets the same questions I feel that not as many woudl answer or even giv the same answer. Here things seem to be way more open and honest.

Can't concentrate on what I really need to be doing - preparing for a class I'm teaching or what needs to get done - laundry - but I know I have to do these things so I can't sleep. But why do I like Yahoo Answers? Curiosity, mainly but it's also nice to "relate" without the baggage of relations.

I am here answering questions because I am pregnant and I can not go to sleep right now. It passes time and it gives me a good laugh. Some of the qustions that people ask are just ridiculously hilarious ... others I answer in a concerning form. I think that some people really need advise. I'm wise and well rounded enough to give people thoughtful and logical answers.

I do it to keep myself sharp with on the spot sorts of responses. Occasionally I do it because I really want to help someone, but typically, it's so I can condition myself to answer, off the top of my head, poorly stated and poorly reasoned questions I get from undergraduates.

Because it's somewhat productive and I'm not too tired to do this, but am too tired to do most other things. Also it can be educational and I might know something someone else can benefit from

Because it's two-thirty in the morning and there's nothing better to do.
Else, why are you here asking questions?

For the same reason that you are here asking questions. You don't ask, I can't answer
