I have been on BT Broadband since it was first available. They have always supplied all of the Kit that you need as far as I know.
If this is not the case, you need a DSL modem not a 'Cable ADSL' modem. They are available from belkin etc but 'Thomson' is BT's supplier of OEM equipment so you get better support.
They can be connected by USB, Ethernet Cable or Wireless. The choice is yours depending on the age of you PC or Laptop and the distance to you phone socket.
I am on Option 3 and have just upgraded to 'Total Broadband' they have supplied me with the nice Shiny White 'Home Hub' and phone, which is both wired and wireless. I actually use both wired and wireless connections.

Little note for other users of Home Hub. Did you know that it can act as a print server from one of the USB sockets on the rear!
Do a search of chatrooms and you will see how. (Not easy to set up but Mondo Cool!)

Yes you do need a modem and no you do not have to buy anything. Whatever Company you signed with,( i am with BT they gave me all i have mentioned below in my package) there should have been 2 filters,modem/ DSL/LAN cables and an installation disc in a package that comes first and foremost to you.Check with whatever server you have signed up to for any help and do not venture into unknown territory unless you are sure what you are doing, or you will regret it...Sam

Depends on whether you have your broadband connection via your phone....If this is the case yes you need a long ethernet lead to connect to your computer...you can purchase this at any leading P.C. supplies store. Also how old is your current P.C.? If unsure what to do again ask your local P.C. store where they will help you.
Good luck and happy internet using.

You can ask the broadband ISP, because that is the SERVICE you are paying for!!! They are supposed to help you to make it all work!!!

I prefer a long ethernet lead for security, higher speed, no interference from neighbors' portable phones, and microwave ovens, walls, and bats.

We're going to need to know what modem they gave you with your subscription. What computer do you have? does it have a wireless card. Are you connecting one or more computers?
