So my friend is trying to tell me that the pokemon games are much deeper than I previously believed. Like, he says that not all pokemon level up with the same stats and that you can train them to have stats specifically higher in certain areas, and you can train them to be more resistant to sleep etc. He says you can do this by simply having your pokemon fight a fast pokemon for more speed, a strong one for more strength etc. So I ask him if it tells you, say, when your pokemon can resist sleep and he said no you just have to believe in it......Yeah, I think that might work if we were in an anime series. If any of this is true is there any way to tell if any of the work you put into an attempt to make your pokemon stronger in these ways is working?

Maybe your Friend is talking about the new Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red/Blue

In those games you can as you are leveling up your Pokemon raise your IQ as well and one of them will wake you up quickly from sleep.

yeah I agree with Yin...

I also believe that EV stats has something to do with it....i think.
I notice this while using pokemon that I had cloned using the cloning cheat I learned with pokemon gold and swap both of the in pokemon red. Each trained in diffrent routes and each had growned diffrent stats.

some parts are true, but if you really want a fast pokemon i have some tips here, get a hasty nature one, give it a speed boosting item like Quick Claw,or just give it Carbos, or just keep fighting battles, some pokemon have the ability Vital Spirit which makes them immune to sleep

If you use Items like Carbs and hp up you can increes ther stats.
Some pokemon with the ablitre Vitele Sperit (I probly got the name wrong) are imuned to sleep and Fire pokemon are imuned to burn and Posinon Pokemon are imuned to the effents of poison (Stell Pokemon are imuned to posion type moves). Also the personatles of a pokemon also have an effect.

in the ruby, sapphire & emerald, as well as FireRed & LeafGreen, there's something called EVs (effort values i think) and basically, as you battle pokemon, your pokemon earns EVs from specific pokemon it battled. if enough EV is collected in one category of the stat (ie attack, defence etc), when the pokemon levels up, that particular stat will go up. so if your pokemon keeps on getting defense EVs and mine keeps on getting attack ones, our pokemon's stats would be different, although they are the same pokemon.
