About 3 years ago the NHL decided to jam their heads up their arses and started to try to make rivalries that meant nothing. When they realized the new teams were not getting the fan support that they needed they tried to make the teams they were playing against more intriguing to the fans. That's why the Red wings ( an original 6 team ) has to play Columbus and Nashville so many times. While they only get to play a true rival like the Maple Leafs once. Hopefully the NHL will soon realize that all teams needs to play a home and home series with every team in the league and put less emphasis on all the B.S. games in the divisions.

This is a bit of a perspective based statement. For some teams the new schedule is great for rivalries...mostly in the East, mind you. Take Buffalo and Ottawa, for example...they play Toronto, for both the Leafs are the closest geographical opponent, eight times. They also get two of the other original six in Montreal and Boston eight each as well.

When I look around the league, a team like Dallas is not gaining in the same way as they really have no geographic rivalry with anyone...seems to me the closest is Phoenix...and they don't have any original six or other "classic" teams (ie the Flyers) in their division.

Double edge sword, what they've done, but it is a schedule that should help teams in the north (like Chicago and Boston) that have been struggling at the gate.

I hate the hot sched. Yeah, as a Sens fan I quite have loved searching on the Leafs get overwhelmed black and blue interior the time of the traditional season, yet i'm feeling charitable interior the fashionable. Is it quite straightforward that the Leafs - who (will now no longer be in a position to trust i'm retaining this) probable may have made the playoffs the previous 2 seasons - had to play Buffalo, Montreal, Ottawa and Boston 8 situations each and each and every on an similar time as weaker communities snuck into the playoffs as a results of coolest fulfillment of taking area in a plenty a lot less complicated time table? i understand it really isn't any longer accessible to make a perfect time table, even with the glaring shown truth that it may favor to truly be more beneficial sensible than it on the instant is.

Well its sort of more conveniant and its better to play the teams in your own conference more so you can see which teams make the top 8 by playing in the same conference rather than the other

because the teams from their own division are closer so they dont have to travel as much but i agree with you because i like seeing them play lots of different teams but It is very hard to go around the country for a single game

keep team travel costs down. But they can still improve upon it.
All eastern teams have the edge, as they are all within driving distance of each other.

It's to build up rivalries and make the games more exciting. This is Bettmans idea to make hockey more popular.
