......as a great weight chained around our neck.
Michael J should realize that the reason we're hated is because of our unconditional support of Israel.
If there were no Israel, there'd be no problem.

The primary reason the US gives Israel a blank check to egregiously violate the rights of the Palestinians and others is due to the radical theocratic right. It's perhaps the most cynical alliance ever; the Christian nut-jobs think all of the Jews need to be back in Israel before Jesus returns, at which point all of the Jews will be brutally slaughtered. The Jewish crazies, on the other hand, think that they must drive the Palestinians completely off of the land so that their own messiah can return.

Israel, the land is important to the far right Christian Zionists in America and is fundamental to their belief in the so-called Rapture. The truth is, America has a large number of people that think Jerusalem must be under Christian control to allow the second coming. The Jews in Israel are being armed and funded for one purpose - to look after the holy land for America
Many Evangelical preachers in America preach their belief that the Jews in Israel are doomed and must be defeated during the Rapture. Israeli's should be pretty worried because they're just serving a purpose at the moment.

Personally I think it's a matter of what's right and wrong. After the Holocaust alot of people over here supported the Jewish Diaspora to have the opportunity to go back to their homeland. As far as today, I can't give you a good answer. Might be a number of reasons. I don't think their is any real economic ones. I know some Jews who could care less about the situation in Israel. Others see these terror organizations come after them and side with the Israelites. What have they done wrong? The opposition never has really made their case. All people see is a bunch of masked men chopping heads off, making crazy demands and sending children for suicide bombings. A bit of a culture shock if you ask me.

Israel is supported so strongly by the US because of the overwhelming Jewish lobby in this country and because of the Judeo-Christian tradition in this county. Is Israel important to the US? Personally, I think Irael is a big problem for this country. We are spending billions of dollars in aid to them, and because of our unconditional support for them we stay on the bad side of the Arab world all of the time. We made a terrible mistake in allowing them to destroy a large part of Lebanon. Now Lebanon is unstable and their people blame us for not stopping the Israelis. The Israeli's spy on us, they attacked our ship and killed our sailors just prior to the "68 war, but little was done in the way of retribution. Unfortunately, no one in this country has the power to change this. If anyone speaks out, they are immediately branded as anti-Jewish. No one can separate the religion/ethnicity from the state. Jimmy Carter recently published a book that did not speak well of the Israelis' treatment of the Palestinians. His Jewish employee immediately quit and began a vitriolic campaign against Carter. This is typical. I have nothing against the Jewish people, but I do not like the way we continually condone everything Israel does.

The Jewish community in the US in particular, and to a relevant extent in most other Western nations have managed to acquire a lot of wealth and power. In the US they have infiltrated both parties to the extent that regardless of whoever is in charge, American foreign policy caters to the interests of Israel. What is sad is that the interests of ordinary American people are forsaken, too. There's the so-called religious right who have become more Zionist than Zionists themselves, and don't be surprised if one day when facts are exposed, you learn that even this pretext for justification was initiated and cultivated by the crofty Zionists. There are decent Jews who are humanbeings and very opposed to Israeli crimes against humanity, but they are marginalized. The issue is actually more complex in that the large and powerful military sector of the economy makes its profits through selling of weapons and seemingly tension and conflict create a favourable business atmosphere. With Israel and its oppressive expansionist policies and oil money in the Middle East, you have super situation for continuous sales of weapons and for transference of taxes to war-mongering industries through Pentagon contracts, etc. Thus money that should be spent productively is wasted on weapons of mass destruction. The tragedy is ongoing, and it'll continue till Americans wake up and see the lies by their mainstream media, politicians and the (Zionist) Jews who rank with the Nazis.

I am not American ....but....think of the Jewish vote. In the past there have been the famous Ronnie Regan visit to Ireland to win the Irish vote the famous Kennedy claim to the Irish vote so I am assuming, be nice to Israel and you get the Jewish vote in the US.

Because Israel is the front line in the war against Islamic world domination. Anyone who does no want to become the slave of an Islamic dictatorship should support them. Even in Tehran today there are riots against the Muslim fanatics

Unlike most of the other countries in the middle east, Israel is a Democracy. The way their goverment is set up is very similar to ours. So maybe that's why we identify more with them than the other countries which surround it.
Also I think there are more Jews in America than in Israel ... and they all fight for Israel's causes.
But most of the non-Jewish Americans are for Israel too!
Please read the essays attached for more reasons why.

Israel IS a strong Democratic example in the ME and a large part of why they are hated. Their neighbors love to yap about Israel stealing land and so forth but a fact remains, Syria and Jordan stole land from the Palestinians, why do they not attack them? I smell ...a pile of steaming SHENANIGANS!
And another point, calling Israel a weight around the neck of America may be a truth, but they are an ally and I am of the nature to NOT let anyone else dictate who my friends are, not even Iran.
To answer...as best I can, it is a combination of all the factors you mention. As an ally, if Iran gets a toehold in Iraq, expect nuclear warheads to begin flying toward Israel and Israel to reply in kind. Then America will be back in the ME but on a scale like you can't imagine. Think I'm crazy? Check the link. Why do you suppose Iran wants to get into Iraq badly enough to offer to help America and Britain leave?
