I don't believe that either is better than the rest. However, personally, I prefer Steve Vai over the others. He is extremely versatile and he is a first-class musician as opposed to just being a guitar player. He is also very approachable to fans and is actually a humber person as I have met him a couple times.

When I read this, I feel it is like one of those philosophical questions with no real answer. Each one of these guitarists has made themselves into who they are. They have each taken a different road in playing and each one of them has conquered that road. Each one has a very unique style, and has totally mastered that style. Depending on who answers the question will depict the answer, but that answer is only for whom answers. So the real question is: Who do YOU think is a better guitar player?

I would say Malmstein, but this is a pure guess since I haven't heard 'em all.
When I think guitar player, I think of either Santana or Stevie Ray Vaughan before any other names. Oh, and Clapton is pretty good.
