It needs to be more than that.

For teenagers, it should be jail time. I've heard too many cases where if the parent tries this on the teenager, the kid beats them up.
It should be done when they're young, so that they understand that bad acts bring bad reactions.
Waiting until the kid is a teenager to apply the discipline, is a little late, it should've been done from the first.
I have to agree that the parents are the ones to decide if a child should be made to stand in the corner or get a whack on the behind. It's the parents that know what form of discipline works best for their kids.

The answer is educate the parents, kids aren't any different now than they ever where, but parents expectations and value's are very different, so if you have a problem child, - look at yourself!
Every body wants to blame someone else, it's society, it's school, it's government, and so on, it's time to take responsibility for whats yours,
Therefore the in answer to your question, maybe a clip around the ear is the answer for some kids, but the parents should be in the best position to know what discipline works for their children.
lastly you need a licence to own a dog, but any idiot can have a child.

Perhaps if the young lads who have skipped curfew on their ASBOs 20+ times, with nothing more than a slapped wrist, were to be given something a little more of an incentive, then perhaps they would learn to respect the law and the people they are offending.
Too many problems are left until they are too late, and everyone's too scared to do anything about it, so these idiots run amok with no reason to stop.

We are certainly far to soft these days and the issue needs addressing, trouble is the ones who make the decisions live in a different world to the real people!! So they have NO idea what some people have to endure? I think filling the streets with these pretend coppers is a joke!! Yep deterrent has to be punishment! i'm sounding Victorian here, but it's obvious nothing else is working?

i agree with national service, what harm can it do? shame we aint got any rights as parents anymore as i think kids should be taught that actions have consequences. i dont see anything wrong with smacking a child as long as it is done to teach disipline and done in love and not out of anger. if they dont like the consequence then i believe that it is only a matter of time before they learn not to commit the action. this has to be the way from a young age, i love my children and they know it, i would do anything to protect them but they must learn whats right and whats wrong.

They should make them wear a bright orange boiler suit with the saying "Ive been a naughty boy/girl"and then send them uptown on a saturday to pick litter up or poop patrol.then everyone can laugh at them.maybe that would teach the little beggars.

Once you take the power from the parents and give it to the kids like this country has done you are asking for trouble.
The kids no exactly where they stand, if you give them a slap there on to the Police.
Come on Blair give us perents the power back.
