With gas prices penny's make a difference. Years ago the folks who provided gas pumps decided to beat the competition by doing the nine tenths and make it seem like a penny cheaper and they did it. It's been used ever since. I worked at a gas station when I was 16 and sold gas for as cheap as 16 cents a gallon. Hmmm, that was a while back. I would sure like to see the gas wars back again.

People generally look at numbers before period. So, a gas station may lose customers by posting $3.00, instead of $2.99. Some gas stations play games like 2.98 or lower to attract more customers. I, too, look at numbers before period since that is what I see first or my eyes concentrate on it by itself.
