Good Morning Bruce,
I hope that you truly do have a good morning and a great day.
My godson is the route nurse for the hospice that I manage. He is very goal oriented and also has a touch of ADD. When he comes into the office in the morning it is to gather supplies and then leave to see his first patient. He puts about 1500-2000 miles every two weeks on his car so you can gather that he travels great distances to see his patients. Usually when he walks into the office he is very preoccupied and he does not speak. This does not bother me but some of the females in the office take it as a sign of disrespect. So, I had to bring it to his attention. He didn't even realize that he was failing to speak in the morning(he is also not a morning person). since our talk he walks in takes the few seconds that it costs him from his schedule and speaks to the ladies in the office. Everyone is happy now. It maybe that sometimes people have other things on their minds when they fail to speak in the morning or they don't feel very "chatty" first thing. Something as simple as making that person aware of the fact that a simple good morning is all that is needed might change their outlook. In Vicente's case he is simply preoccupied and was overlooking it, he meant no harm, is very pleasant and personable.

Do you mean they refuse to, or they just don't because it doesn't come to mind? If you say it to them and they don't respond, I guess that's kinda rude of 'em, but If it's just that they never say it (as the first to say it), well, it's really a custom, and some people may not follow it. I mean I, personally, never say 'hi' to a person who I've already met, unless I'm surprised to see them, or haven't seen them in a very, very long time (Like, at least a couple of years). It's just not my thing. It's a sign that I remember them clearly as the day I met 'em. Although I'm regarded as rude for this, it's my personal custom, and I won't be held to someone else's custom that they made.
So, hopefully the world will become more intuitive. We shouldn't base how we think of a person on some anciently-originating custom. My workmates don't say "Good morning..." Just 'hi,' but even if they don't......

I'd personally prefer people not to be phony. If they don't really care about me, and give me a phony, blank "Good morning", it really bothers me. The people who really care about me having a good morning will say it.

Yes I do--But I say it to them anyway, I am going to wear them down one of these days and get them to respond.--I like to make it personal and use their name. Just for the ones that like to ignore me. Some people are just rude and I enjoy pointing it out.
Oh, by the way----Good morning.
