Hello, my relatives using an Italian company called Alpi Eagles (it's known in Italy).
Just to have an idea of their prices... two way ticket (Athens-Venice and Venice-Athens) for the late days of December costs about 200.00 euro.
For June the prices are even cheaper if you reserve your ticket early.
Happy traveling!

PS: there is also the solution to make that trip via Adriatic sea (ANEK lines or MINOAN lines) but it's long (almost 1.5 days) and more expensive. It's reccomended only for those who are afraid of airplanes!

Backpacking across Europe is not the cheap sport it used to be. Hostels, meals, train tickets, entrance fees, buses, laundry, entertainment & all will run you about $80-100 per day for 2 people. Lodging is the biggest expense. Get a guide book to Europe & look at prices. Prices for hostels in the major cities will shock you. Summer is peak season. Europe on a tight budget is like going into a game arcade with no quarters. All you can do is watch others having fun. The key is to have a route planned out. Don't just wander aimlessly. That will bust your budget. Dublin to Greece is a major distance. Consider getting a Euro Rail pass. You can't buy them over there. 2 months is a lot of traveling. At some point, you need to rest, start thinking where that will be. It is in those down periods that you start the real spending. Good Luck.
