It's something that people joke about, and I'm wondering where this weird idea came from. Would any self-respecting cow really just stand there and let herself be tipped over?

Yes, cow tipping does occur, but mostly in rural areas of the country, and by high school boys who are bored and have had a little to drink. Self respect has nothing to with it. Some cows sleep standing up, that's how they are able to be joked with in this manner...I do know it makes them mad as hell so you better be a good runner.....Where the idea came from I don't know, maybe from one of those bored, half drunk school boys....

Hi, I've heard of this, but have never done it. I've also heard that, despite how humourous this may seem, you can actually hurt the cow, as it's own weight, from being knocked over, can injure it's ribs, sometimes possibly breaking them. Not sure if this is true, but if it is, please don't knock over these poor cows! How would you like to be knocked off your bed when you're sleeping and crack a rib, get hurt etc. What did the poor cow ever do to anyone? Geez!

Cow tipping is not a myth--people actually do it. Granted, they are usually bored people and/or drunk people. The cow allows herself to be tipped because she is sleeping. If she were awake, it would be an entirely different story.

I tried once and the cow did not tip over! I guess if you had 4 or 5 guys it might be possible, but unlikely. Cows are heavy, real heavy.

As a side note, I thought that the Pixar movie Cars did a rather humorous variant of this legend.
