Sow your wild oats was the original phrase. Sow means "to plant."
Basically it meant a guy sleeping around with different women to spread his "seed" as widely as possible before he had to settle down.
Once he was married, he would have to tend only to his wife (domestic oats?) and would not be able to do any further sowing out in the wild.

That's "sow your oats", an old expression for young men to go out in public,have fun with women,etc, before getting married and settling down to a "respectable" life.

I think you mean sow your wild oats? It means to meet as many people as you can and enjoy life prior to settling down. Some people think it means to sleep with as many people as you can before you settle down. What ever rocks your boat!

I believe that is SOW your wild oats. To plant your seeds. In this case I believe it applies to procreation.
