What do women mean when they say you are handsome?

I am a middle aged man and have recently had many women tell me I'm handsome. I have never considered myself a good looking man, so I am a bit confused. Is 'Handsom' the same as 'Good-looking'? Are they interested in me and this is there way of broaching the subject? Hoping you can help!

That you're a hunk; you're easy on the eyes. Duh, yeah they're interested or they wouldn't be telling you that. What kind of signals are you giving out? That you're looking and available? Men always seem to get better looking as they get older. They go from geeky looking in high school, to "distinguished" looking.
Broaching it? Next time somebody calls you handsome, just look all innocent and say, "Really?" And reiterate what you did above. How you're a "bit confused" because...and they'll strike up a whole conversation with you about why you are. Wow, what a come on line! Clean cut and presentable is not handsome; that's a geek, a nerd. Handsome is hot, as in a classy way - you don't have a pierced nose kind of thing. Obviously the answerer above is a tad older than he'd like to admit, or maybe a bit envious.
And just as an afterthought, notice how all the women are giving positive answers but the men are giving answers as though they are just oh, so bitter about something?

Haven't you heard the saying that "Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder?" Sometimes inner beauty can create outer beauty you know. Also, everyone is beautiful to someone. People find different things attractive. Some are drawn to a woman's eyes, some are taken by her skin, others are captured by her heart while still others are mesmerized by her hair. Some women have nice hands, others have beautiful figures. Some are tall and thin. Others are shorter and curvy. Some are big and beautiful, others are svelte and sweet. Normally I would say that all men are handsome, but the fact that you are referring to a group of human beings as "pigs," means that I was clearly wrong. While you're pointing a finger at certain groups of women and attacking their self esteem, your piggish attitude is evident for all to see. I have seen large women on dates with men, so obviously there are people that find them attractive. Please get some counseling for your disgustingly gross attitude and rude / abusive language.

I will be honest: I have got this compliment too before and generally I haven't been that successful with women in life (I have had a couple GF's, but by successful I mean more than that): it means you are a "nice looking guy" but not one they see in a sexual manner. Sorry but I wouldn't consider handsome a compliment unless the girl is much younger than you and trying to make the connotation that she thinks you are cute in a sense but mostly old.

Its much better to be called cute than handsome..it doesnt ave the old age connotation.
If you aren't seeing anybody call the girl out on it who calls you handsome and ask her out. Chances are if you don't make a lot more money than her you aren't going anywhere.

It means you pass as an acceptable mate for their species, otherwise it means "you aren't a hottie." Handsome means you are clean cut and presentable, nothing else. It is also a respectful way to approach an older man with his looks. Handsome means you have a chance.....so, go for it. good luck, Jack

well i'm assuming "handsome" has something to do with your looks.if you want to find out what they really mean, ask what they think your best feature is.if they get into specifics, they actually think ur goo dlooking, if they go..uhm.uh weeelll, they you know they're broaching the subject or jus tplain bullshitting.

handsome means good looking, and i suppose if they are saying it they would like you to ask them out.
